Vecima & Sercomm Expand All-PON™ Partnership for Broadband

Vecima and Sercomm announce PON interoperability for broadband operators.
  • Vecima’s industry-leading Entra® EXS1610 and Sercomm’s family of Optical Network Terminals (ONTs) have completed rigorous PON interoperability testing
  • Joint Vecima-Sercomm solution offers flexibility to select the Optical Network Unit (ONU) vendor of choice without bookended, single vendor lock-in

Vecima Networks Inc. (TSX: VCM) and Sercomm today announced an expanded strategic partnership, having completed a broad set of interoperability tests, that enables Broadband Service Providers (BSPs) to deploy PON-based business and residential services.

With Vecima’s Entra Open Network Ecosystem (ONE), operators get best-in-class support for third-party ONTs/ONUs, ensuring no single vendor lock-in to specific customer premises equipment (CPE), enabling industry-leading investment protection. Sercomm is a key partner for Vecima’s interoperable PON solutions for both ITU PON and 10G EPON technology.

Sercomm’s XGS2200C10 ONU, designed for both Residential and Small-Medium Business (SMB) deployments, offers BSPs interoperable, cost effective 10Gbps broadband and voice services. Compliant with standard OMCI definition ITU-T G.984, the XGS2200C10 is firmware upgradable over TR-069 and works well with business routers, WiFi6/7 CPE, and IP set-top boxes.

Vecima’s Entra EXS1610 All-PON Shelf for ITU PON is supported with Entra vPON Manager, combining scalability with operational simplicity for fiber-to-the-home deployments. The EXS1610 supports multiple PON types, including ITU XGS-PON and IEEE 10G EPON, and is deployed today at multiple worldwide operators in multi-vendor CPE environments.

In addition, Vecima’s new Entra vPON Manager gives operators robust XGS-PON subscriber management and service provisioning capabilities, back-office management integration with telemetry support, and a simplified, interactive web user interface.

“We are proud to announce interoperability with Vecima’s EXS1610,” said Derek Elder, President of Sercomm Service Provider Business Group. “Sercomm partners with industry-leading OLT vendors and customers to bring innovative, interoperable, and cost-effective solutions to market.”

“Vecima’s innovative PON solutions lead the market in interoperability and reliability, core to our technology philosophy,” said Clay McCreery, Chief Operating Officer for Vecima. “With Sercomm now part of the Entra Open Network Ecosystem, BSPs have the flexibility to select the ONU vendor of choice and avoid single-PON-vendor lock-ins. Our partnership with Sercomm is an important step in broadening choice as BSPs deploy fiber services.”

The Vecima Distributed Access Architecture (DAA) product portfolio, recognized by the Dell’Oro Group as the global market share leader in Remote MACPHY and Remote OLT solutions from 2021-2024, is deployed by operators around the world. Learn more at vecima.com/broadband-access.
