Sun Hydraulics Wins 2025 LEAP Award for ENERGEN in Motion Control

Helios Technologies, Inc. (NYSE: HLIO) (“Helios” or the “Company”), a global leader in highly engineered motion control and electronic controls technology, announced its operating company Sun Hydraulics (“Sun”) has earned a 2025 LEAP (Leadership in Engineering Achievement Program) Gold Award in the Motion Control category for its groundbreaking ENERGEN™ technology. The LEAP Awards from Design World magazine recognize the most innovative products and components in the design engineering space.

ENERGEN™ is a first-of-its-kind hydraulic-power-to-electrical-power conversion system designed to harvest energy from hydraulic flow. As part of Sun’s ecoline™ energy-efficient solutions, this innovation combines Sun Hydraulics’ renowned cartridge-valve design with advanced generator technology―delivering a new dimension of performance and efficiency in fluid power systems.

“This recognition reflects the ingenuity and purpose-driven innovation that define Sun and our Helios family,” said Rick Martich, President of Sun Hydraulics & Motion Control Technology. “ENERGEN™ is a breakthrough that exemplifies how we’re advancing the future of motion control—delivering smarter, more efficient, and sustainable solutions for our customers that move industries forward.”

ENERGEN’s recognition comes at a pivotal time, as equipment manufacturers and system integrators are under increasing pressure to improve energy efficiency and reduce lifecycle costs. With ENERGEN™, users can expect:

  • Higher system efficiency – Energy from hydraulic flow is captured and converted, lowering wasted heat and bleed flow.
  • Simplified system – Fewer external energy sources are required when the ENERGEN™ solution is integrated.
  • Sustainability advantage – By harvesting what would otherwise be wasted power, systems using ENERGEN™ can achieve lower carbon footprint and better compliance with regulatory and customer demands for green engineering.

The LEAP Awards announcement stated that Sun Hydraulics’ latest innovative solution, ENERGEN™, “promotes the safety and reliability of the operation of electrohydraulic systems. It can be used in parallel with conventional power supplies for sensors and valves to offer redundancy in the system.”
