Securly Expands To Manage Student AI Use In K-12 Classrooms

Securly

Securly now enables schools and districts to filter student AI prompts, track AI usage, and receive safety alerts when students use Google Gemini, ChatGPT, and other AI platforms.

Securly, the fast-growing developer of technology for K-12 student safety and wellness, released new AI safety capabilities that allow districts to apply filters and guardrails, receive safety alerts, and track students’ AI usage.

Today’s announcement builds on a successful pilot where 450 school districts enabled more than 250,000 safe AI conversations during the 2024-25 school year. According to the company’s data, across over 8,200 schools, 23% filter or block current AI tools, even as those same districts work to develop acceptable student use policies.

“We are on a mission to empower educators and students to embrace AI without compromising student safety,” said Tammy Wincup, CEO of Securly. “This is about ed tech and big tech working together to unlock the educational potential of emerging technology. Now administrators and educators will have greater visibility into their students’ AI use by adding the same guardrails they have come to expect from Securly in other digital footprint areas.”

Securly is used nationally to manage 14 million school-issued devices and review 75 million daily student digital activities, including to identify instances of cyberbullying, self-harm, violence, and grief, allowing student service teams to identify and intervene with at-risk students promptly. With expanded student AI prompt reporting, district teams have increased visibility into student use of generative AI.

All Securly products meet strict FERPA and COPPA compliance requirements and are SOC 2 certified, putting student data privacy at the center of our work.
