Revive Environmental Wins 2025 WEFTEC Award for PFAS Annihilator® SCWO

Revive

Revive Environmental has been named the 2025 recipient of the Water Environment Federation’s (WEF) Innovative Technology Award for its groundbreaking PFAS Annihilator® Supercritical Water Oxidation (SCWO) system. This prestigious award recognizes new technologies that deliver exceptional advancement in wastewater treatment, solids management, and water quality improvement.

The PFAS Annihilator® is North America’s first fully permitted SCWO-based PFAS destruction system operating at commercial scale. Unlike traditional methods that capture or relocate per- and polyfluoroalkyl substances (PFAS), the PFAS Annihilator destroys them at the molecular level, achieving >99.99% destruction efficiency in complex liquid waste streams such as landfill leachate, AFFF, and industrial wastewater.

“This award affirms the transformative impact our technology is having in real-world PFAS treatment,” said Douglas Hendry, Chief Technology Officer at Revive Environmental. “SCWO is more than an idea—it’s a proven, deployable solution that eliminates PFAS permanently while meeting the highest standards of safety and environmental compliance.”

Eligible technologies for this award must have been in full-scale operation for more than a year and demonstrate meaningful advancements in design, maintenance, or process efficiency. The PFAS Annihilator® has not only met those standards—it’s setting new ones. Now operating at commercial scale, the system treats complex PFAS-contaminated waste at fixed facilities for government, infrastructure, and industrial partners—including airports, landfills, and the U.S. Department of Defense. With full regulatory permitting and independent third-party validation, the PFAS Annihilator® is delivering permanent PFAS destruction at a scale the industry hasn’t seen before.

“Our technology was built to move the industry beyond partial treatment and into verified, permanent PFAS destruction,” said David Trueba, CEO of Revive Environmental. “This award means a great deal to our team—not just because it recognizes innovation, but because it affirms the impact we’re making on communities, clean water, and the environment. We’re honored to work alongside partners across the country who share our urgency and commitment. At the end of the day, this is about doing what’s right—protecting people and ecosystems by eliminating PFAS for good.”

The award will be presented at the WEFTEC Awards and Presidential Celebration Ceremony in Chicago, IL, on September 29, 2025.
