Power Knot Ocean, the market leader for onboard organic waste management solutions in the marine environment, is pleased to announce the installation of an LFC-200 biodigester aboard the expedition vessel MS Seaventure. Seaventure’s operators have prioritized sustainability by selecting the LFC biodigester to enhance waste management and ensure compliance with stringent environmental regulations in sensitive waters of Antarctica.
The LFC biodigester is an advanced food waste management system that utilizes aerobic digestion to break down organic waste into water. By eliminating the need for traditional waste disposal methods, it significantly reduces operational costs and environmental impact. The LFC biodigester replaces a pulper on Seaventure that previously ground food waste, offering a more eco-friendly and efficient solution.
The LFC biodigester is typically installed in galleys or garbage rooms on vessels, enabling seamless waste processing. Available in nine sizes, these units can process between 10 kg (20 lb) and 6000 kg (13,200 lb) of food waste per day, providing scalable solutions to meet diverse operational needs. The resulting greywater can be discharged directly overboard or treated through the ship’s sewage treatment plant, as implemented on Seaventure.
“We are proud to support Seaventure’s commitment to sustainable waste management with the LFC biodigester,” said Iain Milnes, President of Power Knot Ocean. “Our technology provides a reliable and compliant solution for vessels operating in delicate marine environments, ensuring food waste is processed safely while reducing carbon footprint and meeting strict environmental standards.”
With this installation, Seaventure continues to lead the way in sustainable maritime operations while aligning with the highest environmental standards required in Antarctic waters.
