Numat Technologies Celebrates Nobel Prize Recognition for MOFs

Numat Technologies proudly celebrates the awarding of the 2025 Nobel Prize in Chemistry to Susumu Kitagawa, Richard Robson, and Omar M. Yaghi for their early work in the development of Metal-Organic Frameworks (MOFs).

With this award, the Nobel Committee recognized the groundbreaking potential of Metal-Organic Frameworks (MOFs), highlighting their “enormous potential, bringing previously unforeseen opportunities for custom-made materials with new functions” to address pressing industrial and environmental challenges. The Nobel Committee’s press statement highlighted examples of real-world impact, referencing Numat’s ION-X®, product used to safely store toxic gases – the world’s first commercial application of MOFs.

“This is an exciting milestone for the MOF community, and validation of the tremendous effort by academia, government and industry to drive real world impact through chemistry innovation,” said Ben Hernandez, CEO of Numat Technologies. “The Nobel Prize not only honors scientific pioneers but also emphasizes the importance of industrial innovation in unlocking the true potential of enabling technology platforms like MOFs.”

Over the past ten years, Numat has built the pre-eminent industrial base for MOFs, leading the commercialization of MOFs in the semiconductor, defense, and industrial sectors. From safeguarding soldiers through next-generation chemical warfare protection to enabling ultra-pure gas delivery for semiconductor fabrication, Numat’s MOF-enabled product solutions are actively reshaping modern industry and national defense. With a mission to translate cutting-edge MOF science into scalable platforms, Numat continues to set global standards for safety, sustainability, and innovation in materials technology.
