James Gorman Joins General Atlantic as Senior Advisor

General Atlantic, a leading global investor, today announced that James Gorman will join the firm as a Senior Advisor, effective April 1. Based in New York, Mr. Gorman will advise on enterprise strategy and growth initiatives across General Atlantic’s global, diversified investment platform.

A deeply respected executive with significant leadership experience at some of the world’s largest financial institutions, Mr. Gorman brings to General Atlantic a proven track record of scaling and expanding investment platforms, an extensive network of institutional relationships, and expertise in executing strategic initiatives. He is Chairman Emeritus at Morgan Stanley and Chairman of The Walt Disney Company.

Mr. Gorman previously served as Chairman and CEO for more than a decade at Morgan Stanley, where he led the firm through strategic transformation, expanding its wealth and asset management businesses and positioning it as a global leader in investment banking and financial services. Prior to Morgan Stanley, Mr. Gorman held a number of executive positions at Merrill Lynch and was also a senior partner of McKinsey & Co. He began his career as an attorney in Melbourne, Australia.
