Hitachi Digital Services Earns EcoVadis Silver for Business Sustainability

Company Secures Top 6% Global Ranking, a Rare and Highly Competitive Distinction for First-Ever Fully Independent Submission

Hitachi Digital Services, the global systems integrator powering mission-critical platforms, has earned a Silver Medal from EcoVadis on its first fully independent submission — a rare achievement for a debut assessment. The ranking places Hitachi Digital Services in the 94th percentile amongst its global peers seeking third-party evaluation of their environmental, social, and governance (ESG) practices.

The Silver Medal indicates Hitachi Digital Services has defined and deployed robust ESG policies with measurable results, underscoring the rapid success of the company’s aggressive strategy defined in its current sustainability report.

EcoVadis evaluates corporate sustainability performance via a company’s policies, actions and results against 21 stringent criteria. These criteria reflect leading global frameworks including the Global Reporting Initiative guidelines, International Labour Organization conventions, ISO 26000 standard, and United Nations Global Compact Ten Principles.

Profiled as a “Large Company,” Hitachi Digital Services’ scores ranked on average 30 points higher than the group standard across the assessment’s four themes: Environment, Labor and Human Rights, Ethics, and Sustainable Procurement.

The company views the accolade as validation of its ESG commitment — an operational framework embedded in Hitachi’s culture and central to its U.S. strategy as customers increasingly require ESG valuation prior to partnering with global technology suppliers.

“Sustainability is integral to how we drive resilience and long-term value creation,” said Roger Lvin, CEO of Hitachi Digital Services. “To date, we have enabled our customers to modernize, reduce emissions, and enhance competitiveness, while strengthening our own ESG commitments from scaling renewable energy adoption to advancing full value-chain accountability. We execute with discipline and unwavering focus to deliver measurable impact that positions our business, our customers, and society for long-term success.”

Hitachi Digital Services’ ESG strategy promotes the corporate ethos of social innovation through powering good. The company’s sustainability goals aim to reduce resource dependencies and achieve decarbonization while operating ethically and responsibly.

Informing the EcoVadis ranking, Hitachi Digital Services’ fiscal year 2024 ESG highlights demonstrate major strides toward those goals:

  • Sustainability: Expanded partnerships for electric vehicle (EV) charging infrastructure and advanced battery energy storage systems, while leveraging IoT technology to enable customers to monitor and manage electricity and gas usage more effectively.
  • Environmental: Committed to achieving carbon neutrality in Scope 1 and 2 emissions by FY2030 and reaching net zero by FY2050, supported by an emissions baseline assessment covering Scope 1, 2, and 3 emissions.
  • Social Capital: Launched a new, innovative onboarding program to support people managers and new employees, complemented by extensive employee training that has engaged more than 83% of staff, alongside over 500 volunteer hours contributed to education initiatives in India.
  • Governance: Launched a Sustainability Committee a year ahead of schedule while establishing 18 goals aligned with strategic priorities and completing a refreshed double materiality analysis to inform corporate strategy.
