MCE™ empowers mobility apps to unlock new carbon credit revenue streams, incentivizing users to choose low-carbon transport and driving sustainable growth

Greenlines Technology Inc., a leading innovator in climate technology, today announced the issuance of a Canadian patent for its Mobility Carbon Engine (MCE™), a digital measurement, reporting, and verification (dMRV) system designed for mobility applications. This patented technology allows mobility platforms to generate verified carbon credits by quantifying emissions reductions from low-carbon transportation choices, thereby fostering both environmental sustainability and economic value.

The MCE™ was granted Patent Number CA 3,132,053 by the Canadian Intellectual Property Office on October 7, 2025. This recognition affirms Greenlines’ groundbreaking approach to integrating low-carbon transport options with user movement tracking. When embedded in the backend of third-party mobility apps, the MCE™ calculates emissions reductions as users opt for sustainable alternatives such as public transit, biking, or shared mobility, compared to their bespoke baselines.

“The approval of our Canadian patent marks a significant milestone for Greenlines as we broaden the reach of our MCE™,” stated David Oliver, Co-founder and CEO of Greenlines Technology. “The MCE™ serves as a proven dMRV solution, enabling mobility applications to produce credits from low-carbon journeys and deliver essential financial incentives to mobility providers. In conjunction with an independently-validated greenhouse gas quantification methodology developed by Greenlines, the MCE™ empowers mobility applications to yield substantial revenue streams when users adopt low-carbon transportation options, thereby augmenting existing income sources such as premium subscriptions, advertising, and additional services.”

Greenlines initially secured U.S. Patent US 11,774,255 B2 in 2023, establishing the MCE™ as the first-ever patented system for converting physical movements into carbon credits. The company has demonstrated its efficacy through a partnership with Moovit, the world’s leading mobility app serving over 1.5 billion users. In 2024, a Moovit-led carbon project, powered by Greenlines, recorded measurable greenhouse gas savings from U.S. app users and converted them into verified carbon credits via the CSA CleanProjects® Registry, demonstrating the efficacy of the MCE™ and the methodology.

For mobility app owners, partnering with Greenlines offers a straightforward pathway to integrate climate action into their platforms while generating new revenue. The process begins with licensing the MCE™ and gaining access to Greenlines’ validated greenhouse gas quantification methodology. Greenlines provides expert guidance to develop a customized carbon project, registered under reputable frameworks such as the International Carbon Registry (ICR), an ICROA-endorsed registry, or the CSA CleanProjects® Registry. This ensures compliance and credibility in credit generation.

Implementation is seamless: the MCE™ integrates into the app’s backend, automatically tracking and recording low-carbon trips completed by users. From the moment of signing a partnership agreement, Greenlines supports the entire journey to the production of the first verified credits. Once generated, these high-quality credits can be sold on carbon markets, creating direct revenue that complements traditional app income streams. This model not only enhances user engagement by rewarding sustainable choices but also positions apps as leaders in decarbonization, potentially attracting more users and partnerships.

With the Canadian patent secured, Greenlines continues expanding its reach internationally, with patent applications underway in regions including the European Union. Mobility app owners interested in licensing the MCE™ and exploring partnership opportunities are encouraged to contact Greenlines to discuss how this technology can transform their platforms into revenue-generating engines for sustainability.
