Graduation Alliance Appoints Ryan Imbriale as COO to Lead Ops and Growth

Graduation Alliance has appointed Ryan Imbriale as its new Chief Operating Officer, bringing more than 30 years of experience in education and ed-tech leadership to the role.

The position has been vacant since Dr. Shawn Smith, the former COO, was appointed Chief Executive Officer in March. Imbriale comes from PowerSchool where he served as the Group Vice President and Head of Worldwide Education.

“As advances in technology, automation, and AI continue at a rapid pace, Graduation Alliance continues to invest in our people strategy. We know it takes talented people to realize the full potential of today’s technological advances, and Ryan Imbriale is the ideal candidate to lead our organization into the next era of growth,” Graduation Alliance CEO Dr. Shawn Smith said.

A pioneer in empowering student learning, Imbriale is a lifelong learner and educator. He has worked in education for more than three decades, holding roles at nearly every level of leadership, from teacher to high school principal to higher education administrator. He spent more than 17 years with Baltimore County Public Schools, most recently serving as Executive Director of Innovative Learning.

“I’m eager to get started and see how we can continue to improve operational efficiency and technology integration,” Imbriale said. “Graduation Alliance is a fast-growing organization led by a powerful mission to help students succeed — one that I can’t wait to be a part of.”

With his blend of classroom, district, and corporate leadership, Imbriale will help Graduation Alliance scale its impact and strengthen partnerships with schools and communities nationwide. His appointment underscores the organization’s commitment to ensuring more students have access to flexible, supportive pathways to graduation.

Since 2007, Graduation Alliance has given schools and communities across the nation the resources and support needed to help individuals reach their educational and career goals. In partnership with school districts, local governments, nonprofits, workforce development boards, and community colleges, Graduation Alliance develops highly effective alternative education and workforce training programs.
