Bakelite announced today that it has been awarded a Gold Medal by EcoVadis, a globally recognized leader in business sustainability ratings. This prestigious distinction places Bakelite in the top 5% of more than 130,000 companies assessed worldwide.

Bakelite’s Gold Medal reflects a strong and steadily advancing sustainability performance, driven by the implementation of new policies, operational enhancements, expanded public reporting, and focusing on sustainability initiatives such as Responsible Care and ISCC Plus.

Key operational actions contributing to this achievement include:

  • Installing solar panels at Bakelite sites in Barry (UK), Lantaron (Spain), and Kitee (Finland)
  • Adding a steam turbine at Botlek (Netherlands) facility
  • Advancing water reuse at U.S. sites in Eugene and Albany (OR)
  • Leveraging a new chiller system at Louisville (KY) to reduce water consumption

Together, these global initiatives were instrumental in achieving this top sustainability rating and reflect Bakelite’s commitment to measurable progress and transparency.

“Earning the EcoVadis Gold Medal is a significant milestone that underscores our deep commitment to sustainability and responsible business practices,” said JP Aucoin, President & CEO of Bakelite. “Our recent acquisition of Sestec, a leader in bio-based adhesives for wood and composite materials, together with this recognition, reinforces our dedication to helping customers achieve their sustainability goals.
