Southwest Gas Doubles Environmental Benefit for Move2Zero℠ Participants

Public Utilities Commission of Nevada-Approved Program Update, Begins September 2025

Southwest Gas’ Move2Zero℠ Program (Move2Zero℠ or Program) is enhancing Nevada customers’ ability to reduce their carbon footprint. With approval received from the Public Utilities Commission of Nevada (PUCN), the Program will become a regular offering and will double the per-block greenhouse gas (GHG) emissions offset associated with natural gas usage, significantly boosting the Program’s environmental benefit.

Move2Zero℠ allows eligible Nevada customers to voluntarily offset combustion-related GHG emissions through the purchase of $5 blocks. Beginning in September 2025, the benefit of each $5 block will increase, offsetting the combustion-related emissions from 20 therms of natural gas usage, compared to 10 therms during the pilot phase of the Program. This means, Move2Zero℠ participants will automatically begin offsetting twice the combustion-related GHG emissions associated with natural gas usage while still contributing just $5 per block. Consistent with this change, Southwest Gas is able to retire additional carbon offset credits on behalf of customers for their previously purchased blocks, increasing the Program’s total historical benefit.

“This enhancement to Move2Zero reflects our commitment to offering solutions to customers that help achieve their sustainability goals,” said Amy Timperley, Senior Vice President and Chief Regulatory Officer at Southwest Gas. “We’re maximizing the Program’s benefit while keeping it simple and affordable for customers to make a meaningful difference.”

All carbon offset credits used in Move2Zero℠ are purchased and retired by Southwest Gas on behalf of participating customers. These credits come from third-party validated projects with measurable environmental benefits, available through trusted registries including the American Carbon Registry and the Climate Action Reserve. Current projects supported by Move2Zero℠ include:

  • Prairie Pothole Avoided Conversion of Grasslands and Shrublands Project (ACR222)
  • Granger South Jordan Landfill Gas Destruction Project (CAR400)
