Avangrid reaffirms commitment to championing Hispanic leadership

Avangrid, Inc., a leading energy company and member of the Iberdrola Group, this week hosted the Summer Meeting of the National Hispanic Caucus of State Legislators (NHCSL) in Boston, Massachusetts. In support of the meeting, Avangrid helped convene nearly one hundred Hispanic state legislators from across the United States to engage in strategic conversations on the most pressing issues facing the nation, including rising energy demand.

“The National Hispanic Caucus of State Legislators Summer Meeting was a powerful celebration of the critical role Hispanic leadership is playing in shaping America’s energy future, and Avangrid was honored to host this important summit,” said Avangrid CEO Jose Antonio Miranda. “We recognize the importance of engaging with our state leaders and will continue to uplift Hispanic voices and deliver energy solutions that benefit the communities we serve across the nation.”

“Engaging directly with NHCSL policy makers and reinforcing our shared values and commitments to innovative energy solutions was a meaningful experience for all of us at Avangrid,” said Avangrid Deputy CEO Kimberly Harriman.“We remain committed to cultivating a strong and ongoing dialogue with the National Hispanic Caucus of State Legislators, a key partnership for advancing smart energy policy and serving our communities most effectively.”

The Summer Meeting took place across two days, consisting of policy sessions, trainings, meetings, and networking opportunities. On Monday, August 4, 2025, Avangrid Deputy CEO Kim Harriman delivered welcoming remarks, emphasizing the importance of consistent communication and coordination with regulators and legislators to meet rising demand and ensuring a reliable energy future.

“We are truly grateful to Avangrid for their hospitality and commitment to the work of our Caucus by hosting our 2025 Summer Meeting,” said NHCSL President-Elect Rep. Juan Candelaria (CT). “We were also honored to be joined by Avangrid’s Deputy CEO Kim Harriman for a great policy discussion addressing the rapid demand growth for electricity while reducing pollution, a topic of concern for all our membership, especially with the increase in the use of AI. We are excited to keep partnering with Avangrid and to continue holding these important conversations together.”

With energy demand projected to surge over the next decade, driven in part by the construction of new data centers, Avangrid is working to deliver the energy residents, businesses, and communities need. Of its 80 energy projects operating across the country, Avangrid currently has 10 projects, totaling approximately 1.5 gigawatts (GW) of capacity, that are providing power to data centers or the largest players in tech and AI, with five more projects totaling nearly 700 MW under construction. In July 2025, Avangrid announced it has signed a power purchase agreement (PPA) with Google for more than 100 Megawatts (MW) of energy from the Leaning Juniper IIB repower project.

In March 2025, Avangrid announced its plan to invest $20 billion in U.S. electrical grid infrastructure through the end of the decade. The plan reflects the critical need to invest in energy infrastructure to meet growing demand, as well as the United States’ position as a top investment priority for Avangrid and Iberdrola.
