Guidehouse Names Oracle, Uplight & Bidgely Energy Leaders

Leaders demonstrate leading-edge technologies, comprehensive energy management features, robust end-user bases, and well-documented performance for delivering energy savings

A new report from Guidehouse Research evaluates the key players in the rapidly evolving residential energy management sector. The report highlights the growing convergence of consumer- and utility-facing technologies as companies strive to offer smarter, more comprehensive energy management solutions for homes.

Home Energy Management Systems (HEMS) are technologies and platforms designed to measure, monitor, and manage energy consumption in residential settings. The market today includes two primary categories:

  • In-home HEMS, which leverage smart devices to manage appliances such as HVAC systems, water heaters, and electric vehicle chargers; and
  • Grid-based HEMS, which enable utilities to manage residential energy usage via integrated platforms that pull data from utility meters, smart home devices, and other external systems.

While these two categories have traditionally served distinct customer bases—consumers for in-home systems and utilities for grid-based platforms—HEMS providers are increasingly offering hybrid solutions that bridge both markets.

Oracle, Uplight, and Bidgely earned the top “Leader” distinction in the Guidehouse ranking, recognized for their advanced technologies, comprehensive feature sets, and proven performance in generating measurable energy savings. These companies have demonstrated success in serving both residential consumers and utility partners with scalable, data-driven platforms.

“HEMS providers are no longer just targeting a single customer segment,” said Hannah Bastian, research analyst with Guidehouse Research. “The future of residential energy management lies in integrated systems that deliver value to both utilities and end-users—and the leaders identified in this report are at the forefront of this transformation.”

The report, Guidehouse Research Leaderboard: Home Energy Management Systems Providers, examines 10 HEMS providers that offer residential energy management solutions with features for consumers, utilities, or both. The companies included in this analysis offer either in-home or grid‑based HEMS, with many offering a combination of the two. An executive summary of the report is available for free download on the Guidehouse Research website.
